Ron Mark

Major (retired) The Honourable Ron Mark, OSRE (Oman), DSPA (MFO) is a retired army officer who completed 20 years military service, serving in the New Zealand Army, the Multi-National Force & Observers in the Sinai, the Sultan of Oman's Land Forces and the Sultan's Special Force in Oman.  Returning to New Zealand in 1990 after five years in the Middle East he entered politics and was elected to Parliament in 1996 serving as his party's spokesperson for Defence & Veterans from 1996 to 2008.  Ron was elected Mayor of Carterton in 2010 & 2013 but resigned in 2014 when he was re-elected to parliament where he went on to become New Zealand's Minister of Defence and for Veterans in the Coalition Government between 2017 - 2020.  Originally from Carterton, Ron has five children, 14 grandchildren.  He and his partner Christine live on a lifestyle block in the Carterton District.
