A number of the world’s most popular films are adaptations of a loved book or play – think The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Charlotte’s Web, The Book Thief, Whale Rider – and many others.

Luminaries of the film and writing worlds explore how Patricia Grace’s novel Cousins was transformed into a screenplay and film.

Patricia Grace, who wrote the novel 29 years before the film was produced, tells the unforgettable story of three cousins “connected by blood but separated by circumstances, who spend a lifetime in search of each other”.

Screenwriter and co-director, Briar Grace-Smith will join Patricia Grace in conversation with Christina Andreef of the New Zealand Film Commission.
