Something is Happening Here: Dame Robin White in Conversation with Courtney Johnston
Saturday 13 May 2023, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Featherston School Hall, 11 Lyon Street. $15
“A consistent thread in my work is that it’s made in response to place, and what’s happening around me – physical and social environments provide the raw material, the inspiration, the starting point.” Dame Robin White (Ngāti Awa) is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most significant visual artists. For over 50 years, she has portrayed people and their environments in this country, Kiribati, Fiji, Tonga and beyond. With Te Papa Chief Executive Courtney Johnston, Dame Robin explores the places and people she has forged relationships with, and how they have transformed her life and art. The book, Robin White: Something is Happening Here edited by Sarah Farrar, Jill Trevelyan and Nina Tonga is shortlisted for this year’s Ockham Book Awards.
(Please note: the venue change was originally the Joy Cowley Room at the Royal Hotel - but has now changed to Featherston School Hall. All other details about the event remain the same)
